Definition: Moderate reduction in kidney function
GFR: (Stage 3A: 45 - 49 ml / min - Stage 3B: 30 - 44 ml / min)
Goal:
Prevent further kidney damage and slow or stop progression to Stage 4
Possible Clinical Actions:
• Evaluating and treating complications
• Continued assessment (GFR, blood and urine tests)
• Evaluate for complications such as anemia, bone disease, cardiovascular disease, and malnutrition
MEDICATIONS TO AVOID:
NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories): These medications are often given for the treatment of arthritis or inflammation. Some examples are Motrin, Aleve (naproxen), Advil (Ibuprofen), Celebrex (celecoxib), Mobic (meloxicam), Relafen, Goody’s Powder, and more.
An alternative to NSAIDs is Tylenol (acetaminophen), which is a safe over-the-counter medication to take for pain, headache, etc.
An 81mg aspirin is also safe to take.
