Staff Spotlight

Candace Owens

Candace Owens joined Carolina Nephrology in October 2013 as a medical assistant. She is currently enrolled in the nursing program at Greenville Tech and says, “I feel very lucky to have this amazing opportunity while still in school.” Candace’s daily routine includes escorting patients back to the clinic, taking their blood pressure and assisting the physicians. Her favorite things about working at Carolina Nephrology have been interacting with patients and getting to know coworkers who are always helpful and fun. Now that summertime is upon us, Candace is excited to relax with family and friends at the lake!


Brittany Fowler

Brittany Fowler joined Carolina Nephrology in May 2014 as the front desk receptionist.  She is responsible for checking patients in and out, scheduling appointments and filing paperwork. “My favorite part of my job is always having something to do,” said Brittany.  She enjoys working hard, staying busy, and days when she has the chance to interact with many patients. Brittany takes advantage of the warm weather by spending time with friends and family at lakeside bonfires and in the great outdoors!


Alicia Bennett

Alicia works as a medical assistant and enjoys brightening patients’ days during their visit.  She cherishes the friendly relationships she forms with the patients and in her spare time, loves spending time with her 5-month-old dayghter, Makyla.


Daniel Callahan

Daniel is a phlebotomist at Carolina Nephrology in the Greenville and Greer offices.  Daniel loves the one-on-one time he gets with patients and cherishes the friendly relationships he has formed with the patients over time.  When he isn’t working, Daniel enjoys puzzles, hiking and camping.


Karen Robertson

Karen Robertson, APRN-BC, joined Carolina Nephrology in 2005 as our Adult Nurse Practitioner. Karen graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Nursing Practice.  “I am privileged to have the opportunity to work with phenomenal physicians and an awesome staff, however, what I most enjoy is interaction with my patients.  They become an extended family member and keeping them healthy is my primary focus,” said Karen.  In her free time Karen spends time with her husband and daughter.


Gail Kirby

Gail E. Kirby, APR, joined Carolina Nephrology in July 2011 as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina with a Master’s in Nursing, and continued her education with a Post-Master’s degree at the Medical University of South Carolina.  Her training and passion for helping others led her to Carolina Nephrology.  “I love the continuity of care in my job.  I love seeing some of the same patients week after week or at least every other week in the dialysis center.  I am able to establish relationships with them and hopefully achieve the patient’s respect in order to help them better their journey in dialysis.”  When she is not with patients, Gail enjoys spending time with her husband and two children and having an active role in her church.


Tonya Farmer

Tonya and Becky work in the research sector of Carolina Nephrology. Tonya has worked with patients for 9 years as a medical assistant and a pharmaceutical drug researcher. As a dedicated mother and caregiver, Tonya provides for her 15 year old son while helping to change the lives of many patients through diligent research and care.


Ericka Calhoun

Ericka and Kesha work as registered nurses at the Dialysis Access Care Center (DACC) in Greenville. Ericka and Kesha love the friendly and fun atmosphere at Carolina Nephrology and especially enjoy seeing patients leave their office with better function of dialysis access. Both Ericka and Kesha are Greenville natives. One of Ericka’s favorite pastimes is watching her daughter play softball, and Kesha enjoys spending time with her growing family.  Both nurses find caring for patients at Carolina Nephrology to be a rewarding experience.

Sally and Becky are medical assistants at Carolina Nephrology. Though they have specific job titles, their work encompasses so much more than just helping patients. The two women not only have medical tasks like helping patients with IV’s, dialysis, injections etc. they also have administrative tasks, making sure the doctors and patients have everything they need. They are loved by their patients for their patience and care, and they equally find working with patients the best part of their jobs. In the coming year, Sally and Becky are looking forward to helping better their patients’ health and wellbeing in addition to the warm weather; as Becky is an avid camper.
